What do you buy as a christening gift?

Any ideas for christening gifts if you don't know the family very well. Also, if you can't make the christening, should you still send a gift?

  1. In the UK? Copy of newspaper printed on the Christening day; Coin minted in the year christening took place; commemorative postage stamps. It's polite to send a small gift if you can't make the christening.
  2. Some thing like a 'my first tooth' or 'my first curl' box. a photo frame or money box always goes down well. if you've been invited i would get a small gift if you can't attend.
  3. You can buy something usual like something made out of silver like a baby photo frame or egg cup and spoon or if you dont know them very well buy them a voucher or something.
  4. A Savings Bond is always a safe bet. You can buy a denomination for less than it will be worth and it will grow to maturity as the baby gets older. Also, The child can't grow out of it.
  5. You can give a photo album. Babies usually have a lot of pictures.
  6. Clothing is always welcome. You dont have to give a gift if you dont go...as you dont know the family well ~
